Inside a Fine Auction House in Vancouver
Heffel was founded by industrialist Kenneth G. Heffel in 1978 with a passion for contemporary and historical Canadian art. Opening the Heffel Gallery Limited in a heritage building on Vancouver’s established South Granville Gallery Row, he dedicated his time and energy to cultivating a strong clientele and establishing his reputation for handling major artworks by the leading Canadian artists such as B.C. Binning, Emily Carr, Lawren Harris and Alex Colville.
In 1995 Heffel set a milestone with their inaugural live auction, grossing over $1 million, and from that point forward, they have continued to revolutionize the way art is sold in Canada. By the early 2000’s Heffel began to divide its semi-annual live auctions into separate sessions, which were subsequently titled Canadian Post-War and Contemporary Art and Fine Canadian Art, allowing clients to focus on their areas of interest.
In 2015 Heffel launched HO2 (Heffel Online 2), an online auction platform for larger sales and special projects. This successful platform has allowed Heffel to connect with an international audience of buyers and sellers, including corporations and private collectors.
